Dear Charles and Bill…what an incredible life-changing experience for our group-29 Anglicans from the Kootenay Diocese of BC.(Nov8-21).Will I ever stop feeling the grit in my teeth? Will a ham&cheese sandwich ever taste the same? Will I ever hold a hammer without thinking of that so-basic bright orange house I helped build? Will I ever get over the feeling that I have so much, and they have so little.
My life has ben so enriched for having this experience. Thanks for letting us be part of your great organization.

How beautifully written! From trips I have done in Honduras and Africa you have said exactly what I have felt. How good to be home in Canada but it is so hard to go back to life as it was.I too struggle with the apathy,complaisance and ignorance. I wish everyone could experience one of these trips.

Hey everyone it’s Gillian.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone involved in organizing and attending my Hero Holiday trip.
It was such an amazing experience that i will cherish forever. I am so interested in coming back to do an internship in Mexico. Or maybe checking out another place like DR or Thailand. Sorry i couldn’t me ‘ ssage sooner I just arrived home.
Last night was the first night I’ve slept in my bed since before the HH trip. What a strange feeling even though I’m definitely missing my corner bunk in the girls dorm.
WEll hope everyone is having half as an amazing time on the second trip as I did on mine. Work hard and you’ll reap the benefits.

To the building team-

Congratulations on an excellent project! It is wonderful that you have gotten to know the family you were building for, and I am sure you will always remember the experience. There is a lot to learn about this type of housing, but what makes a project like yours invaluable is actually getting to know local residents. From my research in the area of low-income shelter alternatives, I know there are a lot of projects that get done without making meaningful contact with the people you are trying to help. It sounds to me like you put the family first, and empathized with their situation. Thank you very much Becky for sharing your heartfelt stories about the family. To all the team members, have a safe journey home, and I hope your travels will one day provide the opportunity to continue your volunteer work. You should be very proud of what you accomplished!

Lauren is coming to Florida with us for 5 days!! Benson has no hair left!! We have had so much rain that we have to cut the grass often!! Zack is doing your paper collections, working on Degrassi and cant wait for you to return and take back your paper route!!

i was part of the DM “group one” that went and i met shagi…
i remember hanging out with him by our truck. He never went near the piles and mostly stayed close to the water…

Reluctantly, he pulled his hand holding… your picture, and said… “I miss her”, pointing at the picture. It was so powerfull that I needed all my streangth not to show the emotion (I am trying to be more strict with Daniel lately as you know…).

Dear Andrew L. today it is raining and will do so for the next couple of days. We have had good weather untiltoday. Spent a week in prince edward island and visited friends. i am taking aunt audrey, sahah, amanda and uncle lewis out to dinner, then i go out with friends for game of cards. i will be going on bus to pasadena on thursday to aunt yvonne then later to botwood for an elliott family reunion with elliotts from all over the world. i fly home on august 15. We just read about baby Ruth and how little food her mother has for her and her siblings. It is so hard to imagine children and people living in these conditions with the abundance of everything that we have and take for granted. You can share so much love, laughter and hope to the people you meet in the DR and that all helps to make a difference in thier lives. Many of these experiences must be really tough and touch you in ways you never thought imaginable but you can still offer so much love with even a simple little smile.

Generosity - Never underestimate the power of giving. It shines like a beacon throughout humanity.

Today we read about the orphanage visit and the many other activities you are all doing!! Everything sounds so incredible to be participating in.

It rained hard all day today so Lauren was not happy on her day off as she was hoping to spend it at the beach!! I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures! I’m so jealous of you right now, I wish I was there! We all miss you. I’m sure you’re having the time of your LIFE. Remember I’ll pay you back for anything you find me But I want you to focus on the trip and don’t worry about shopping… only if you have time. hahaha

Use those muscles when building the homes and school! When you come home you better be JACKED, that’s how I’ll know you worked hard, lol. Take tons of pictures and I want to hear all about the people you encounter there in DR.

By the way make sure you try a “Banana Momma” at the resort, they are AMAZING.
