Hero Holiday

It’s hard to entirely organize all of the incredible thoughts that are kicking around in my head on only day 4 but here’ goes!
From building the house, to building new friendships and even strengthening one that I came here with, Mexico has by far been the best experience of my life so far. (Not that I expected much less!)
I came here having no idea what to expect but really hoping to find some things outside of the “bubble” that I seemed to live in at home. After dropping out of college late last year and entering into the “reality” of the full time working world, I thought I’d pretty much seen all there was to see at home (Bradford, Ontario).
Unsatisfied with where I was in life and not liking where I could go, I was eager and more than willing to pack up and move myself to Emiliano Zapata (aka Vicente Guerrero), Mexico for 10 days.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about my house-building abilities and the prospect of being away from where I’d lived for all of my 19 years, but I can honestly say that I haven’t had a second thought since I’ve been here.
Working on the house for Isiais and his family has made me aware of so many things on personal and global levels.  If you had have told me a year ago that I’d be up on a roof with a Mexican man, nailing tar paper down so that water would not leak into his brand new home…I might not have believed you. But here I am, nailing, painting, sawing and measuring all in the name of giving a good man something he deserved all along…

And I have never been happier!
