Last summer during Hero Holiday we were privileged to have two great girls join us: Stephanie and Jessica. Love the cowboy hats! Earlier this year, they contacted me about doing a fundraiser for the project this summer in Dominican. They couldn’t be here physically this year, but they still wanted to something. Recently, a letter showed up at our office:
Dear Absolute,
This is a cheque to go to Hero Holiday. [We] had the opportunity to attend Hero Holiday 2006. This trip truly changed our lives. When we came back to school in September, we were both driven to do something for the world. We decided to have a fundraiser for all the people we met last summer. Our school raised $1478.64. Now we would like to give you our cheque to go to a worthy place to help make lives of individuals better.
Stephanie and Jessica, we would like to publicly thank you for taking the time to make a difference. You didn’t go home after Hero Holiday and do nothing but took a stand for a cause and put your words into actions. When you see the pictures of all those kids on our website, remember that it is because of people like you that they have hope for a better future. Thank you.

These are the kids in their school uniforms singing us a song saying thank you for their school.

Wow, I want to do this so much. Its sounds like a wonderful experience. Although I think I might need to fund raise for myself before i go (to cover the cost!), I think that I will have many things to tell about when I get back to Canada. Thanks Absolute, and the people who wrote this story for making me believe in the power that one person can have.
Hi there. I’m a leadership advisor in Enderby, B.C. and I’m going to Vincente Guerrero with a group (12) students from Enderby this August. I’d like to offer some thanks to both Stephanie and Jessica for your amazing work! I was also wondering how you raised all that money….we’re currently raising money for our trip and your work gave me and my students more inspiration about Hero Holiday and all that Absolute does! Thanks.
Heey! i am really intersted in doing this! i would love to go to the mexico trip in august. The thing is the cost, i would not be able to afford this. What can i do fundraising wise for myself and maybe a friend to get ome money for the trip?
Thank you! Truly inspiring!!
In response as to how we fundraised for the trip it self we did a number of things, we went to local businesses and ask for donations we also went to groups like the Rotary Club and Knight of Columbus and they gave us cash donations in return for a presentation when we returned. we also held a fundraiser car wash and our local car wash gave us half the days earnings as long as we worked the car wash ourselves and we had a donation box at the car wash, in the end we both ended up not having to use any of our own money for our trip. As for the fundraising we did when we got back we showed our slideshow to our school and kicked off a week of helping out the under privillaged… what we did was we got teachers and support staff to donate privllages (like homemade cookies, get out of test free, and anything else the staff could think of, that they would put in all the money and resources) and students would bid on these items and the highest bidder won the privillage ( we had the vice principals chair go for $100) the better the items the more money we raised… we did this also the year before for an orphanage in China and it was also succesful..
